I hadn’t intended to blog today but FFS!!!!

I am regularly asked by people, how they can speak, how long can you speak…etc…and, often, can I attend a meeting?  A lot of people are not ‘geeky’ like me, they don’t read the legislation.  It should be easy to know how they can be involved.  This doesn’t even mention the ability to request to speak. Only those INVITED to speak.  I know people that would think they can NOT approach Council to speak.

The best ever example of bureaucracy gone mad. Copyright doesn’t apply to public documents. What value would anyone have to breach the copy right of a standing orders document apart from perhaps another council and if they did would it matter. I bet that decision took several people about 25 hours to come up with.
In New Zealand, copyright protects original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works, sound recordings, films, communication works and the typographical arrangement of published editions.

If you check the post on Facebook, I posted lots of links to other councils and the Standing Orders they have. Most own their copyright but are all readily available on their website along with how to ask to speak etc. I have also asked on LGNZ’s facebook if it is correct and did they advise ICC to inform residents. LGNZ are starting to shit me. Check out my facebook post about the property files…..and LGNZ gave an award for this?

You only protect copy right when it has a value. Sometimes its good to go back to basics and think about that.
Bit like the privacy act many people use for the wrong reasons. Any breach has to be shown to have disadvantaged someone in some way.
If you go back to your post and think about it what it is saying is that there is a culture of arrogance within the council. They are employed to serve the public but left to their own devices over far to long has them thinking we are their serfs.
I have said it on so many occasions that there is just no leadership. Once that happens people jockey around for their own little bit of power and the core reasons for being go out the window.

So now they’re at odds with their Governance Statement?

During meetings the Mayor and Councillors must follow Standing Orders (a set of procedures for conducting meetings). The Council may suspend Standing Orders by a vote of 75% of the members present. A copy of the Standing Orders can be obtained from Council’s Secretarial Services and Communications Manager or from the Council website

The “copyright” excuse is a farce as ICC set their standing orders and use parts of the ACTs to bolster them, which they can legally do as this is directly from the Legislation Webiste:

There is no copyright in New Zealand Acts, Bills, or Legislative Instruments (see section 27 of the Copyright Act 1994). There may be copyright in certain types of Other Instruments linked to from this website—check with the document’s publisher. All Acts, Bills, Supplementary Order Papers, and Legislative Instruments featured on this website may be reproduced free of charge in any format or media without requiring specific permission.
Everything else on this website is subject to Crown copyright protection unless otherwise indicated. The Crown copyright protected material may be reproduced free of charge in any format or media without requiring specific permission. This is subject to the material being reproduced accurately and not being used in a misleading context. Where the material is being published or issued to others, the source and copyright status must be acknowledged.

LGNZ are simply there to make life easy for Authorities and hard for those who fund them.

And you’re surprised they are at odds? It/they are infuriating at times. I’ll let you know if LGNZ respond…lol, as if
