The Current Year

So I thought I would keep an ongoing list of what is happening with the Events Committee.  What is in an agenda, what is added late, what is not known until it appears in the paper.  Let me know what I have missed.

This is only the current financial year (I will look at doing a previous year after Christmas)

Here are the past agenda items (which are not in the previous period or paid in the previous period)

Cycling Southland application was in the agenda for 7 May 2015 and is shown as $30K from the Iconic Events Fund for the current financial year.  In public excluded but ‘legit’ from what I can see.

events 18 june

Those two PE applications are from the 18 June 2015 meeting.  I don’t see the boxing one anywhere on the 20 October financials for any of the past years.  Either declined or still to be shown I suppose.  They hosted the Boxing Nationals 7-10 October 2015 so it should be shown on 20 October report.

I will assume the Seniors Celebrate one is the one paid in the previous financial year.  Call it legit I suppose.

Next was the 6 August meeting and surprisingly the following meeting included a report of what was granted at the previous meeting.  Actually it isn’t really a surprise though given that resident Rodney Tribe’s email was in the agenda of 18 June regarding process, or lack thereof.

The Breakers got $5K and that is shown on the financials.  The fireworks got $20K GAL which we know from media will be claimed on.  As legit as ICC can do it.

The 17 September meeting has ‘process’ lost again because we have not been given a report at the October meeting outlining what was granted at the September meeting.  I have found the reports are now going to full council meetings though. My head is spinning!  We know from the 20 October financials (and the 27 October council meeting) that the Southland Basketball Association received $2K.  Can anyone tell me what ‘event’ that was for?  Do we know the outcome of the other things?  I need to get on with some housework but I will leave you with the most recent financials provided.  The Joseph Parker one requires more research as I see that they are planning a meeting with other funders and the amount of $42,500 as been mentioned (as a 4 way split…?hmmm)

UPDATE:  I forgot to add the ‘Late Item’ added to the 18 June meeting.  Can anyone tell me any more? A commenter suggested it could be Phantom Of The Opera – the timing is right….

      That will be it! The finances don’t show any payment so maybe they were declined.

    what are Council rules governing the use events funds. The rules for the Event Development fund include that events are not able to be fundraisers for charities. If this is the case, under what criteria did council grant Mr Ketts Rugby Supporters Club funding to cover losses in its recent Fireworks Event Fundraiser for its Junior Rugby Boys. When i first read this, i was unimpressed that rather than go on Fertliser drives or fundraising by their own personal efforts, Mr Kett used his personal role and influence, wearing his Events Committee Hat, to secure ratepayer backing, and effectively the physical effort of using the telephone to hire a specialist fireworks/entertainment specialist instead of personal exertion of the Supporters Club members. Was it solely Supporters Club resources that organised the bands playing, and the detail of the event? Or were Council staffers and resources used in any way to organise this event ( i dont know). But Mr Ketts role here is conflicted, his personal role as President of the Rugby Supporters Club, and more so if he harnassed Council resources in the direct organisation of this event. Is there more than one pot of gold for Events? ( Im confused between references to Iconic events fund, and “Events Development Fund “. Is there also a Event Creation and Promotion fund.?)

      I have just received an email from ICC saying the Iconic funding is for 3 years which is hard to fathom since the full council, through the annual plan, only approve rate funds to it every year…but they have already ‘promised’ three years worth…..curious. I am about o request a copy of both application forms today.

      Cr Kett, Stayed out of the discussion for the GAL so avoided conflict (but left only 2 to decide, one who loves fireworks displays at rugby park and had a whole presentation on them when deciding to take over Rugby park).
      The other aspect above regarding fundraisers for Charities wont apply to the Rugby supporters Club as I am sure they’re an incorporated society, not a registered Charity.

      There is a fund for Iconic Events and a fund for Creation/Promotion, nothing using the wording “development”

      Observer – where have you heard the phrase “Events Development Fund “ – that would be intriguing to look into. ICC have many funds they administer under ‘Community Development’ activity too. If you can give us a link or more info…..

        They did have the Civic Events Fund, which was sucked into the creation/promotion I think
