Pretty Pathetic

14 Aug

The full council agenda is out and the FPP vs STV recommendation is not even a separate item on the agenda.

I will leave it at that for now…something is out of whack I feel and need to refresh my mind (last time I read it thoroughly (LEA 2001) was 2009)

Have a read of their carryforwards, interesting, they have about $70K underspend on Environmental Health, yet the eateries were a mess? Clearly some lackluster budgeting although they decreased the budget for this year and padded it onto Animal Control.

How many of those carryovers will eventually end up in a general reserves account that will be raided for the next whim and fancy that comes along?

Have a good read of the financial result, before siphoning $200K off to General Reserves, the ICC have in effect (after proposed carry-forwards) underspent by some $373+K.

To put this into perspective, last years underspend actually exceeds this years total increase in rates. Even the $173K after siphoning into general reserves makes up a large portion of this years increase.

It looks like Ratepayers are the ICC’s version of Dairy Cows, there to be milked.

I think you are mistaken KylIe, see Fin. & Policy Minutes –Pages 43 & 44 –
Tuesday August 18 Council Meeting Agenda.

    # ‘ Councillor Boniface assured Mr. Swallow that this matter will be debated
further at next week’s Council meeting’.

Worth a read;- Page B 15, Southland Times, August 16 Public Notices.

      Alan,

Yes NB said it would be debated, however Councils recommendation is to stick with FPP, clearly because they obviously can’t be bothered with loading the results into what is a fairly simple program to get the results 🙂

I took Alan’s comment as a little tongue in cheek. I’m sure he knows that I am aware it is in the minutes. To me ‘in the agenda’ is far more than within committee minutes. I know many that only read the ‘items’ on the agenda. If an issue is in the minutes it is frequently missed. I know of a defamation case that could have been avoided had an item been properly declared. When an issue is not specified on the agenda we are reliant on a cllr to ask to speak to that item. If the minutes come up and no one raises it then no ‘debate’ will take place. The issue is too important to be accepted along with the minutes. I have always questioned the appropriateness of ICC’s receiving of minutes (and the resolutions contained within) for a legislated issue to be treated in such a way. Many councils have a cover sheet on all minutes which outlines each resolution within the minutes. Too many of our cllrs do not even look like they have read the minutes half the time.

Got something to say?
