Yesterday’s News Today

29 Jan

It is 1.30am and it is the first time in two days I have been able to get on to the Pressreader via the library.  Whenever I have had the time to check the paper I have been turned away due to too many people using the Invercargill Library subscription.  It may be time for them to increase the amount.  It is of late the only way I directly benefit from the $169 library rate we pay per property.

access denied

I had been hoping to see if Wednesday’s paper had any comment on whether it is appropriate for Invercargill Licensing Trust Foundation member Alan Dennis to be allowed to speak freely, at an Invercargill City Council meeting that is discussing the Makarewa Country Club’s gaming licence?  Would that not be an appropriate time to sit down and shut up?  Did none of the elected members feel it was inappropriate?  Point of Order anyone?

That sadly is a reflection of his judgement and intelligence. However ego makes such calls hard for some who love the sound of their own voices. But as you say surely someone would have pointed out the need to recognise the conflict of interest but many of the same people sat quietly when Elder expounded on the advantages to the city that would come from selling the Deveron Carpark at a knocked down price.

10.30 in the morning and I’m still being denied access! Instead of speed dating ( they could increase the subscription!

It was noted and commented on by some in the Public Gallery- but then those who occupy those seats are meant to be seen only, never heard.

It will be interesting to see how it is recorded in the minutes. I’m sure there is a licensing authority I could send the info to…? Dennis would be rapt…lol

Got something to say?
