B.S.C Vs. Town Hall

9 Nov

ICC are claiming the Service Centre is less than 10%.  As a result of that they have moved back to the Town Hall (even after a recent electrocution).  The question had to be asked, and Charlie did on Facebook.

The Bluff Service Centre will be relocated to the Bluff Municipal Chambers because the current Service Centre building has been assessed as being a serious earthquake risk. What is the Bluff Municipal Chambers assessed at? I understand The Bluff Community Trust has recently had one done. Also what percentage requirements does Kiwi Bank and Lotto have. what is estimated cost of the move ?.

The response was this

Invercargill City Council Hi, the Bluff Community Trust has requested an Initial Evaluation Procedure (IEP) for the Town Hall and we have been advised that the chambers office area is rated at a 50% New Building Standard (NBS) and this equates to a Category C Seismic Grade – which meets the Government’s minimum NBS rating of 33%. NZ Post revised its Seismic Policy for franchisees effective 1 September 2013. The minimum NBS rating for NZ Post is now 67% but this only comes into effect at contract renewal, or on the sale of the business. In the interests of staff/customer safety Council is moving its operations as quickly as possible to ensure business continuity with all relocation costs being kept to a minimum. Total costs are not available at this time.

It will be interesting to see what services remain and what services don’t and what the cost will be.

The Otago Daily Times article http://www.odt.co.nz/regions/southland/280541/staff-vacate-centre has this:
The service centre building stands beside the vacant Club Hotel which the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival Charitable Trust is trying to buy. There is room on the site for a community centre and/or service centre.

Mr King said building on the hotel site was another option the council would approach ”with an open mind”.

If you haven’t actually been invited, doesn’t that mean you are gatecrashing?

Got something to say?
