Rumour Has It

4 Nov

The recently re-elected Peter Kett will spend Christmas (well Boxing Day at least) in Hobart.  Cllr Peter Kett has been appointed to the Events Committee along with Mayor Tim and Deputy Mayor Ludlow.  I am told Kett will be attending the Sydney to Hobart event as part of investigating the A2B Yacht Race (that doesn’t even have a new date).

We should all be scared, very scared, remember ICC CEO Richard King was recently quoted as saying the Events Committee has delegated authority with regard to A2B.  Does that mean the Events Committee can decide what to do with the already approved $280K?

Hasn’t someone already been on a trip to Hobart for A2B?  Who is organising this race, ICC or SMC?

There it is http://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/news/9361431/About-turn-over-A2B-yacht-race That is why we have low votes, people expect cllrs to be turncoats and say why bother voting they won’t represent me once they are are cllrs. History has shown many to be turncoats. Kett is not helping to dispel that view.

Can u prove your theory on low voter turnout? I maintain its because they’re so happy. I can prove that just as much as you can prove the opposite.

No can’t be proven right now nor can yours. A poll on here wouldn’t be very equal either as I get my belief from those I interact with and I can’t say any have said they are happy.
We could use the ‘mandate’ theory but that too has shortcomings. Verbal survey would be the best I reckon but everyone is always too busy or something. That would be a good SIT project though

Most reasons people give for not voting in local authority elections simply don’t wash, says Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) Chief Executive, Malcolm Alexander.

With voting underway for the 2013 local authority elections, research commissioned by LGNZ has shown only 14 per cent of non-voting is down to people not being interested.

Kylie: SIT wouldn’t touch it but it would be a research paper more likely to come from Victoria Uni’s Political studies or Law students. The LGNZ website doesn’t give the link to the research done but Im sure they would release it if emailed.

Tom: perhaps this fits you’re “people are happy theory” http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/8746817/Times-tough-but-not-for-Nats-friends
