Quite clear. He disobeyed a specific instruction from his employer on a sensitive issue. That is always lawful grounds for being fired. What is wrong is that he went ahead and wrote in that vein.
His personal view. Not his newspaper.

I feel NBR has gone over the top. No warning on anything? I don’t see it as all that damning. Withdraw it and make him publicly apologise but they need to take some responsibility. How was it published to the website without it going through some checks and balances? If he had been instructed not to publish THAT article and manipulated the system to do so then I would agree but if it is a difference of opinion over content then I wouldn’t be willing to pin employment court on it. Do all reporters have carte blanche access to upload to the NBR website?

Got something to say?
