The Kew Hospital buildings recommendation by staff to the Hearings Panel (underlining my emphasis)

It is recommended that a land use consent be granted, with conditions, for the demolition ofbuildings at the Southland Hospital, including the former administration block and nurses’home, along with the disposal of the cleanfill material into the unused portion of a partly usedland fill site.

The conclusion does state

At the Hearing the applicant should address, in detail, why they believe that sufficient work
has been undertaken towards finding an adaptive re−use for the heritage buildings, and why
the only practical option is their demolition.

If the Hearings Panel is then satisfied that the applicant has explored all options to retain the
buildings, then it may decide that the state of the buildings and the cost of strengthening
them to seismic standards is such that it would be impractical to preserve them, particularly if
they cannot meet the needs of a modern, functioning hospital.

The applicant doesn’t want anyone else to re use the building.  They want it out of the way.

The Historic Places Trust were the only ones to oppose….I failed😦 and now it will be decided by two people – a lawyer and a radio announcer.  Where are our history lovers?
