The Proof Reader Must Have Quit

11 Jul

The Eye has an article about the Bluff Community Board.  The title is a touch misleading.  ‘New Blood Wanted‘ – with at least one member not running again we MUST have some new blood.  The byline ‘Board arguments halt progress‘.  That implies there was some sort of forward momentum at one time.  A bus service that failed and they blamed the community for the failure.  A pool allowed to become substandard under the board’s watch.  A reservoir that has had no maintenance.  A hill clear felled of trees.  Progress has been a foreign word in relation to the board for a very long time.

My surname is Flower now seemingly.  At least they didn’t call me the partner of a board member.  I’m also a mother to four kids and someone’s daughter and possibly some other things they could mention but that is never said.  My claim to fame is, again, being called a c…  Whatever, that’s mild in the scheme of things.

In one sentence Procter is spelled two different ways and incorrectly spelled under the quote from Procter.  ‘Procter intends to put his name forward as chairman, as well as standing again‘.  Duh, you can’t be chair without standing again.  According to the article, one dispute resulted in “Mr Proctor (sic) filling (sic) a report to a council (sic) meeting”.  Wow! I don’t know if I’ve used the (sic) properly but I’m not paid to do this…they are and Bluff hasn’t had a ‘council’ since the 1980’s.

Laidlaw is quoted

“They’re too busy arguing amongst themselves and nothing gets done for Bluff”

The article only discusses Te Au, Procter, and myself and one reference to Mitchell and the defamation case.  What about the constant arguing and niggling between Mitchell and Procter?  Not to forget collective responsibility either.  Any member can raise a point of order Mr Laidlaw. Did no board members raise that with only one meeting left before the elections that no prospective board members have been attending meetings?

An ill written article that opened with a statement that ‘Bluffies that are calling for new blood’.  Nothing is provided to quantify that statement, just one board member comment.  F- Louise.

Personalities clash quite often these days and elected members sometimes forget why they were elected by their supporters. Time these folk placed personal difficulties behind them and looked after Bluff, after all that’s what they were elected. Nothing more nothing less.

@Trevor. Very true but it should be said that if managed appropriately would not have got to this. Procter has had some very valid points and sadly does not present them well at times (he claims I am guilty of the same though). Te Au has never been given a proper chance. Rumours are that Coote is hardly ever in Bluff so wonder if she should actually step aside. The saddest thing is that there are rumours of people running but I have never heard of them attending a meeting…ever….

Seems the so-called editor of The Eye was too busy creating yet another opportunity to squeeze his poor son into the few pages produced, to give a damn…

Got something to say?
