Cracker highlighted that the information we are given regarding Council allocated RWC tickets ‘Doesn’t Quite Gel’. Today’s letter to the editor in the Southland Times gives us more information:
The council has passed on, at cost, eight of the 12 tickets mentionedby your correspondent. The council intends to do the same with the remaining four tickets, which means that there will be no cost to the ratepayers.
In early August they had been ‘returned to the promoter’ according to Cr Boniface, now in early September, eight have been sold.
At least do me the service of remembering your lies! Whatever…
A front page statement peaked my interest also:
Motel Association of New Zealand Southland president Denise Lusby said motels in Invercargill were almost booked out for the second World Cup game in the city next Wednesday, with a few more rooms available during the first and third games.
Interesting that the council and Venture Southland supported, funded, lauded, promoted event hasn’t filled up accommodation. I know a locally run event, that was refused already budgeted Destinational Marketing funds from council, that does book out the town to the extent that no more flights could be organised because there was nowhere for them to stay.
Cr Sycamore questioned me, why council should support an event that promotes a product most residents can’t afford?
I hope those are ringing in his ears now denying $50k to one event and funding a comparable (if not lesser) event $105k.
